I’ve always thought you can learn so much about a person by wandering through their home, perusing their bookshelves, peaking in their cupboards. With permission. Obviously. It’s almost as enlightening as meeting one’s parents. You can’t hide much!
Before moving to Boston, thanks to some sage advice from others who had done a cross-country move, I sold all of my furniture and planned to start from scratch once I got into my apartment. That endeavor proved to be much more stressful than I thought, but it’s been just as fun as I had hoped. After way too many hours spent on Craigslist and at Ikea, including some magic photoshopping work to ensure all my choices would work, I finally made the key decisions, unpacked all the boxes, hung pictures, and settled in.
Welcome to my home sweet home. In Boston.

Beautiful place! I wish you lived closer and I could unload a bunch of my furniture! Hahaha!
Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!
Your house is so beautiful!
You did a good job making key decisions! The end result looks very charming.
I really love the “scatter joy” metal sign! Every room is so welcoming!
Love your apartment! Very cute & cozy. Best of luck!
Nice! You did a great job redecorating, and how lucky to live in Boston!
loveeee the creative decorating!
Absolutely gorgeous. I admire your simple, quirky taste (and the OCD in me loves looking at clean, organized spaces).
#1: Love the wine selection (I also keep corks)
#2: The jars/candles = brilliant
#3: Your house is so clean and perfect. How do you do it?
Lovely! I especially love the “scatter joy” sign and the wine cork idea.
Your home looks lovely! My personal foodie recommendations for Boston are, Flour Cafe & Bakery ( the sticky buns are heaven!) Parish Cafe ( unbelievably delectable sandwiches!), Monica’s in the North End and Beacon Hill Chocolates ( if you are a chocolate lover, you’ll feel right at home!). Shopping wise, I would check out Savenor’s because of it’s great selection in a small space, also not to mention it was a favorite of Julia Child! Hope you’re settling into Boston well!
Oh my goodness thank you for these recommendations! My list of places to go grows exponentially every day. 🙂 I’ve been to Flour…delicious…but these others are new to me. Thanks!
Your home is lovely. Your post reminds me a bit of one I did recently about our house:

Thanks for sharing,
Kathy
Beautiful job. It looks like a really calm and lovely home, well done. Now you can relax and enjoy it!
Wow! B-U-TIFUL!
Three words come to mind in viewing your decor: Serene. Simplistic. Beautiful.
I love the look, the colors, the feeling, all captured in equally beautiful images.
Congratulations on being FreshlyPressed!
wow 🙂 looks AMAZING! i would love a flat that looked as super as that! you have done such a nice job there!
feel happy in your new home 🙂
also love the sign ‘scatter joy’
xx
where did you get your bedding? I have looked for something just ilke that but in off white!
Isn’t it great?! The set is from West Elm…Organic Cotton Pintuck Duvet Cover + Shams in white. It looks like it comes in an off-white color…”natural.” Enjoy!
great! Thank you so much!
Adorable! You have a great interior design eye :)!
Wow, such a lovely house. Looks so warm and inviting. Been in mine for almost three years and it still feels like a work in progress. Must try harder. 🙂
I loved the book collection. If it were up to my wife we would have no books in our home. Not that she doesn’t love to read – it’s that she doesn’t like to “store” things. I love books and I believe you can tel a lot about a person when you take a look at their bookshelf. The used, read books can tell you alot. I have book that sit on my shelf that still have book tabs on things I want to remember or found interesting.
Sadly I had to give quite a few books away when I moved, but my favorite is the recipe collection my grandma started for me in 1994. I didn’t find it until last fall. Little did she know how prophetic she was!
Nice job. I love a lot of the art you chose (can’t see all of it that well) — big fan of Story People (so much I tried really hard to read yours but can’t quite see it). Looks elegant and comfortable at the same time. Lovely share.
I love Brian Andreas. That particular piece was from a dear friend of mine and says: “In the end, I think that I will like that we were sitting on the bed, talking & wondering where the time had gone.” Well said. 🙂
Oh,, I love that! Thanks for writing it out for me.
love the post, your house and boston! congrats on being freshly pressed!
Nice looking comfy home!
love love love your place..especially the art on the walls! Thanks for sharing. I agree…people’s homes say a lot about them. I’m a sucker for spaces and you did a wonderful job making your home warm and welcoming.
Great job… I love the mixer on the butcher block top. I want a mixer like that as I just have an old one my stepfather’s mother had a long time. Keep up the great design work 🙂
What a delightful place!
Beautiful place! I totally agree a house says a ton about someone, something my (parents) house never showed, but mine sure does.
I think you did a great job mixing old/vintage looking stuff with new (bookshelf with rustic/vintage looking mirror).
Absolutely lovely!
So pretty! I love the little touches you’ve added. My favorite parts are the corks in the glass vase, and the centerpieces for sure! Lovely :):
i really enjoyed seeing the photos of your home and creative things that you decorate with. very cool!
Fun place! If only I was closer I would gladly swing by to help polish off some of that wine! Congrats on Freshly Pressed!
Great job! Makes me want to decorate a place! 😀 I love the scatter joy sign.
Needs a cat. If you can’t get a live one, get a stuffed or ceramic one.
I’d be here all day telling you all the things I like, but I’ll just choose a few: The orange poster with the quote by Hellen Keller, the colorful art work on the wall, your bedding, the living room sectional (so versatile!), the books, that blue bowl on your desk with the pens in it, the red Kitchen Aide mixer and the apples next to it, and most of all, “scatter joy”.
Beautiful and so serene. I love it. Inspires me to declutter and go the clean and simple route
Amazing job with personality, coziness….great balance !
I absolutely love your apartment! Can you please decorate mine?? No, really. You and I have exceptionally similar taste, yet though we have many of the same items, I’m at a loss as how to display them properly. They seem to lack the interest that you have created. Any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated. While I am only half serious, I am very pleased to see that you made Freshly Pressed and do genuinely think your apartment if simply fabulous. 🙂
I also have the anthropologie duvet cover. Love it.
Clean lines, eye catchy, and very nicely done. Thanks for giving me ideas. I love red wine and I had, I threw them away, a lot of corks and I did not know what to do with them. I also have a big glass container that I only use for flowers, but after seeing your place I am going to put the glass container, vase, to put my wine corks. Thanks.
Recycle real corks at Whole Foods Market.
Thanks for the tip! If I have any left after turning them into coasters I’ll take them to WF. 🙂
gorgeous apartment!
I agree. You can tell a lot about people by the inside of their house and the floor of their car. I love your color choices.
Nice finds. Here’s hoping that some day soon I have such a lovely and comfy home. I am guessing by your photographs that you enjoy food and art.
Where is your clutter?!? :0) Now that I’m older, I think I need every piece of paper out and every book out so I can remember, Oh yeah, I was reading that book!,etc..
Very cute place! I like your decorating sense. Enjoy your new place!
Love your new home! I like simple, warm decor… and you nailed it! Congrats on being featured!
Wow! You have such a cute style and I am also a cookbook collector! Do you home decorate for a living? Perhaps you Should consider it! Very cute, quaint and livable! Most important!
Wonderful job decorating. Stressful as it can be, when done, it’s very rewarding.
Beautiful!
I love what you’ve done!
Lovely, cozy, and real. I love the mirror with its pale green rustic frame. Good job!
So so so so beautiful!
Seriously…this is awesome!! i love every corner of the house.. kinda inspiring stuff for my future home! 🙂
Will you please come do my home next? 🙂 We like a lot of the same things. I also have a “You make my heart smile” plaque and a Brian Andreas framed print. Plus, I’ve never met a red wine I didn’t like. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! Cheers, Denise
Welcome to Boston! I hope you are as happy here as I know you will be in that beautiful apartment. One of the joys of living in New England is all the antique shopping, never stop looking!
Fabulous use of color and space! Looks so stylish and homey at the same time! Bravo!
Your place is beautiful and I hope you enjoy Boston — it is a wonderful city!
Wow. I like your house.. I like the fact that you can tell a lot about a person by walking around the house. The pictures are reaaaaaally good, veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery good. I enjoyed the blog. Congratulations for being freshly pressed.

Oh, how cool!
Wow – I love your house. You’ve inspired me to get going and start the de-cluttering of my own house.
That’s so right! It looks very cozy, I think I would feel very comfortable there. And you have the great KichenAid Machine? In beautiful red? I want to own this one, too!! Great home!
In my dreams, my house would look as organised and cultured as yours.
Lovely looking apartment and great photo’s – enjoy Boston – one of my favorite cities … had a very nice boyfriend there once.

Is the kitchen table from Ikea? If so, I have the same one. 🙂
The table is indeed from Ikea, but I scored it from Craigslist! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I’m loving mine.
Great mix of modern and rustic items. I like the little wall shelf by the couch, wonderful use of space!
Thanks for the tour!

I Just love your home. It’s beautiful. Welcome to Boston, we are glad to have you!!!
Why thank you! It’s good to be here!
i love how you did your home! where did you get your white desk? its so cute and im looking for a new one!
Thanks! The white desk is from Target and a quick search for “white desk” on their site shows a ton of great options. Good luck!
oh perfect thanks!
You have a lovely home. Very beautiful indeed. I will have a home like yours once I win the lottery.
you have a very beautiful home 🙂
The details look especially amazing !! Beautiful home.
I love the soothing color scheme. My favorites are the bedspread and grouping of wine. Nicely done!
Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! I absolutely love your space…especially like the small touches you’ve given it to make it stand out from the crowd. Going to take a look through my place and see what I can do…I think if I take pictures the way you did I’ll have a better idea of what isn’t working! Thanks for the idea.
I love your house! It has such good vibes about it, & it just looks really cool! 🙂 Great work decorating it!
Wow! Is your house always so neat? 🙂
Only when taking pictures of it for public consumption. 🙂 Thanks!
That makes me feel better! It’s so lovely!
I love how your apartment looks — simple but very stylish. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! I was checking out your bookcases (can’t help it, LOVE books!!!) and noticed you are a chocolate lover too! What is your favorite kind?
Oh chocolate. Love! Heralding from the Bay Area in California, one of my favorites is Scharffen Berger’s 70% bittersweet. Very high quality, and delicious taste. Check them out! http://www.scharffenberger.com/
Congratulations on being “Freshly Pressed.” Your apartment looks great. Your decor is very attractive, but I have to admit what I liked best of all were the solid wood floors, varnished to shine, and the old-fashioned doorknobs. They bring back so many memories of happy places I’ve lived. I’ve had the opportunity to move a number of times and live in several different areas of the country. I’ve always felt blessed for those experiences. And although I’m not a super-homemaker, I’ve loved being able to decorate a new place each time. Enjoy your new home!
Nice home
Absolutely A-DORABLE. Love how you worked it. Chic and comfy 🙂

Your home is absolutely gorgeous!
I love the framed prints, white simple desk with pop of colors, and well, everything!
Nice, neat and relaxing!
Total home envy – this is so beautiful!
What a beautiful home! I’m so pleased to have found your site!
Very cozy! May I suggest for holidays a terra cotta saucer with candle and rocks, you place around the candle. I leave dish up all year and change candles on holidays. Christmas, red, Autumn, orange and so on…. I like the blog!
A terra cotta saucer is such a great idea…it would work perfectly with my color scheme! Thanks for sharing!
I admire what you did in your move leaving everything is hard!
You are most welcome!
Very beautiful cozy place.
Visit my interior & architecture blog http://arhitekturaplus.wordpress.com
Fabulous! Everything comes together perfectly. Love the choice of colours and what you have done with your space. You’ve inspired me to go and organise my clutter in the hope that I can make it look like yours!
lovely Home. Blessings to you.
I love what you’ve done with the bed and the desk! It looks cozy and clean and those splashes of colors! Love it!
What a comfortable looking place you have made 🙂 I would love to start from scratch but every piece of my mismatched furniture has it’s own story, not sure I could bear to part with them!
I love the pictures above your couch, especially top right. Very nice.
I’ve got this sudden urge to go clean my home! :p
Your home looks lovely, I especially love your living room!
it’s beautiful!!love all!
Love your décor, and I empathize with the challenges of moving, redecorating and starting a ‘home sweet home’ all over again. I think you have done an incredible job, especially in giving me ideas of how to spruce up the bedroom without a headboard. I’m looking forward to reading more of what you have to share! Your photos and furnishings are most soothing, especially Helen Keller’s quote that I totally use as my mantra all the time. Thank you for sharing! 😀
Beautiful! I would LOVE that couch. Ikea, right?
Yes it’s Ikea! I fell in love with the color. And the perfect little corner that the chaise creates. I hope you get to enjoy it one day too!
My result
your home look stranger, near modern but looked traditional.
conclusion really good!
simply beautiful !
How nice it is to have a home like this! I liked it!
Love the Scatter Joy sign. I have found different signs with the word “Laugh” to use in my home. Humor like Joy is a foundation in a strong family. Thank you for inviting us into your beautiful home.
I love the idea of finding different signs to keep around the house as constant reminders. Laughter is another thing I always try to remember…it’s a perfectly joyful distraction from whatever life is bringing you at the time. Thanks for sharing!
